Cuberes Refuge
A historic refuge in Boumort
This refuge is a family business. Various coincidences brought Gabi and Anna to Cuberes. They turned a beautiful house – the kind you draw when you’re little – into a refuge. They moved in and made a dilapidated ruin a cosy refuge, hence the feeling of being at home when you arrive. Along with Jana, Guillem and Nina, they brought life back to an isolated spot in the middle of Baix Pallars.
The refuge is found near the village of Cuberes. The building was an old forest house that has been renovated bit by bit and adapted to its new purpose. The refuge sits at an altitude of 1,480 m, in the heart of a fantastic forest. Here, you can truly unwind: you can enjoy the silence; go on walks along wild, remote trails; see the local wildlife up close (the stars of the show on this reserve are the deer and the vulture, among others); and marvel at the immense night sky full of stars. Want to visit? You will love it
The options on offer in the area are endless. There are no huge peaks in Boumort, but there are plenty of paths, trails and routes that are full of history. Did you know that the Torre de Senyús is a medieval watchtower? That Espluga de Cuberes has a beautiful Romanesque chapel? That plenty of sad stories from the Spanish Civil War took place in Esplà and we have trenches dotted around everywhere? That moixarró mushrooms grow in the same spot year after year? That the deer shed their antlers every year? That the black vulture has decided to set up home in Boumort?
Here at the refuge, we want your stay to be as comfortable as possible. We are still an authentic, isolated forest house, but we have a range of services to make sure you have a wonderful stay.
